What Do I Need to Know if I Am Pregnant in College?

If you’re pregnant in college right now, you first need to know that Pathways Clinic in Washougal, Washington, can help you. Contact us to schedule a time to talk with a caring staff member.

Keep reading for more facts to note when pregnant in college.

Fact 1: Your School Can’t Discriminate Against You

Title IX protects women facing pregnancy from discrimination at school. Your college is required by law to allow you to continue participating in classes or extracurricular activities.

They must excuse medically necessary absences related to pregnancy and childbirth. Then, they have to allow you to return to school with the same academic and extracurricular status as before, allowing you to make up any work you miss.

Additionally, they should provide you with reasonable adjustments, such as frequent restroom breaks, elevator access, and a larger desk when necessary for pregnancy.

You have rights! You can continue school while pregnant.

Fact 2: You Have Three Pregnancy Options

You have three pregnancy options: parenting, abortion, and adoption.

Each option will impact you and your partner’s life and future, so make sure to research each one before making an empowered choice.

Fact 3: You’re Not Alone

Many women have faced unplanned pregnancy in college. You are not alone, and a support system is available.

Pathways Clinic is here to support you and can connect you with community resources, such as counseling, parenting support, material support, and more.

What Now? Where Do You Begin?

At Pathways Clinic, we provide early pregnancy services, such as pregnancy testing and ultrasound, to verify your pregnancy and essential details. Start here.

After a positive pregnancy test, a Pathways registered nurse will determine your medical eligibility for our ultrasound services. An ultrasound scan reveals how far along you are, the location of your pregnancy, and whether or not you have miscarried. All of this information will play a role in your next steps.
